Imogen Poots oozes rising star quality from every pore.
The 21-year-old Brit is chipper after a round of (presumably positive) meetings in LA, has just wrapped a new movie with Philip Seymour Hoffman and has already popped up in films starring the likes of Michael Douglas (Solitary Man), Eva Green (Cracks) and teen dream Zac Efron (Me And Orson Welles).
So it’s ironic that her next role is about a wannabe actress going nowhere.
‘It was bizarre playing her,’ says Poots of her character, Jean Ross, who lights up the BBC’s absorbing new adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s memoirs, Christopher And His Kind.
‘It’s sad in a way but I don’t think she really understood that there are elements of the acting business that are hard – and I think the rejection aspect would have just crushed her.
‘Rejection forms you: it provokes you to form your own identity. I don’t think Jean was ready to do that.’
Christopher And His Kind charts Isherwood’s formative years enveloped in the gay subculture and decadence of 1930s Berlin.

“Christopher and his Kind” Screencaptures and Clip

As some of you may know, BBC’s Christopher and his Kind was recently shown in Germany and France. I was able to get a copy of the dubbed version and I’ve added screencaptures to the gallery. I’ve also added one clip of Imogen singing at the beginning of the film. It looks beautiful and Imogen looks fantastic! I can’t wait to watch it in english.
